ABOUT THE OTHER MA
The Other MA (TOMA) is a postgraduate-level art
programme based in Southend-on-Sea. Built as a
sustainable, affordable, and artist-led alternative to
traditional art education, TOMA supports artists from
all backgrounds in developing critical practice, peer
learning, and professional resilience.
ABOUT THE OLD WATERWORKS
Located in the heart of Southend, The Old Waterworks
is a dynamic space for artists, activists, and makers.
With studios, workshops, and events, it’s a home for
creative practice and critical exchange, and where
TOMA proudly continues to evolve.
Poster design / Nathalie Coste
Let’s Dough It !
With a “Micro-Industrial” practice, Nathalie Coste tries to dissect and disrupt the
mechanism of capitalism, developing a body of work made for collective
experiences. She uses survival skills as a production in open source, bringing
ancient crafts into a place of communal creativity.
Her most recent project, BREAD/ Eat Art, is built on these explorations.
Coste is using dough as a medium to sculpt female body-shaped bread loaves,
mirroring female labour and ancestral knowledge that has been dismissed.
Sculptural breads and ceramic vessels made from local clay hold the centre of her installation and performance, where the public is invited to slice and taste the
sculptures to interact with Coste’s work at a sensorial level.
